Rebecca at RTS!
So I'm glad to take some of my thoughts and learnings over my years here and put them on the web. RTS has been a great home, and we'd love to have you on our team too! We've had a number of highs and lows and walking through them is important for me. =)
October 14th, 1985 What an incredible place to be! It is my first day here at RTS Research Institute, and the whole team has been incredibly welcoming. Bermuda is gorgeous beyond belief, it feels so weird that last month I just graduated, and now I have launched my career in an awesome way. So for our Monday Team Wide announcement, George told us about how we have entered into an RFP for a contract mapping the Caribbean-Bermuda U.S. Submarine Cable Network.
This is some really cool work for us, and from the sounds of it a single contract like this keeps our lights on for years at a time. It also sounds like this RFP will be a slam dunk based on RTS' track record. Sounds like my timing to join the team couldn't be better!
November 25th, 1985 Back at my desk after a fascinating couple weeks of travel! Our team did our initial sonar trolling over the Puerto Rico trench, however part of the way through something seemed to have broken down with the sonar equipment. The team immediately decided to go the oldschool route and depth chart via weighted line. Sounded odd to me, but they have the experience.
Speaking of their experience seems incredibly deep. When we first went out it was pretty casual, but as soon as we got to work, and especially as the sonar went out, everyone seemed laser focused. It was cool to see.
January 24th, 1986 Thank God it's Friday! Had an awesome one on one with Maria, her sonar work is meticulous! She lives and breathes the stuff. She really makes me want to care about a career.
When I was in UCLA I knew I wanted to get a cool job, but this place really has made me realize I want to run something cool too. Find cool stuff, enlighten people, reach into the depths. George loves that phrase and I think I do too now. He's such an odd fellow too, he'll spend hours putting together things in his office like a hermit, then bust out and be the charismatic CEO character to a tee.
They're all good folks here. Even Robert is pretty cool, even if he's a little stiff with his war stories. It's an interesting family here.
